Regatta Bay Golf & Yacht Club

Course Renovation Project

Regatta Bay Golf & Yacht Club announces $1.85 Million Dollar Course Enhancement Project

Regatta Bay Golf and Yacht Club has unveiled a $1.85 million comprehensive course master plan renovation. The course was originally designed by Robert Walker, lead architect for Arnold Palmer, in 1998 who will lead the project. Walker’s master plan seeks to improve and modernize the golf course and infrastructure. The renovations are targeted to be completed by early September.

The reasons why a golf course modernization plan is done are varied. They can range from a need to restore or enhance the character of a course to a need to establish uniform playing conditions. Often, there is an acute problem such as poor or diseased turf on greens or the buildup of clippings that can damage the turf root system. There may be a desire to create a high-quality practice facility by re-routing a few holes to create space.

Director of Golf Operations Mike Giammaresi said: “We’ve been recognized as one of the premier golf courses not only in the Southeast, but also the United States. And to position ourselves for future PGA events as well as to evolve with the transformation of the game, we felt the time was ideal to address some of the natural impacts a course experiences after 20 years of play.”

Beginning next week, Regatta Bay will renovate 14 of the existing greens and fringe areas, redesign Holes 12 and 17, construct new orange tee boxes to improve family friendly playability for senior, ladies, and junior golfers as well as add six new tee boxes and leveling others. Installation of new Tifeagle Bermuda ultra turf will bring a smoother, faster, and firmer playing condition. These additions will add to the overall playability and beauty of the course for many years to come.

“We understand that the quality of play will be reduced playing on temporary greens while the improvements are being made,” said Giammaresi.  “However, we’ve decided to make it the most Legendary experience possible. We are rolling back our greens fees to 1998 rates so both the average and avid golfer can come experience an enjoyable day on the driving range and see what the new course will have in store for them.”

Players will continue to have access to the restaurant, bar, golf course, driving range, academy, and practice facilities throughout this time. In addition, we will unveil a new golf simulator room powered by Trackman in the clubhouse on June 1st. This state-of-the-art technology will allow players to play courses from around the world in HD while receiving real time feedback to improve their swing through the Trackman technology. This system is also recently installed in the White House.

“Everything we are doing to the facility; new greens, tee boxes, bunkers remodels, redesign are designed to improve playability, provide for greater entertainment possibilities, modernize the course to keep it at championship caliber, and improve the overall beauty of the course and community,” said Giammaresi.  “It’s amazing how much of an effect the upgrades will have on the aesthetics and playability of the course. It will become more difficult for the expert golfer while at the same time becoming more playable for beginners.”

“We are excited to embark on this phase,” said Giammaresi. “Regatta Bay will continue to be a leader in the Florida market for setting benchmarks on standards of excellence for play and facilities.” he concluded.
